Villa Gran Orquidea, (house of orchids) located in Puerto Aventuras Mexico, is perfectly placed in the heart of the Riviera Maya, just one hour's drive south of Cancun.   This spacious villa is located on the golf course, within the upscale, gated, resort community of Puerto Aventuras.   Gran Orquidea is just a short stroll from all that the village of Puerto Aventuras has to offer, including restaurants, bars, shopping, golf, tennis, snorkelling, diving, swim with dolphins, deep sea fishing charters, parasailing and of course.... the BEACH.  Guests of villa Gran Orquidea enjoy the privileges of membership at the near by Omni Beach Club.

Puerto Aventuras Mexico is a quick 20 minute drive south of Playa del Carmen Mexico and 15 minutes north of Akumal Mexico.  This makes the inviting vacation rental of Gran Orquidea centrally positioned to all of the spectacular area attractions.  But why go anywhere when within walking distance of Gran Orquidea, the village of Puerto Aventuras offers so much. 
 


 From the off street parking, a beautiful cut stone archway with wrought iron gate leads you into a tranquil courtyard garden and the entrance of villa Gran Orquidea.  Along this path you will pass the 'Garden Casita.'  This detached 'little house' offers 2 self contained studio suites.  (more on this later).  Between the casita and the main villa is an inviting sitting area with bubbling fountain.
 


Upon entering into villa Gran Orquidea you are taken by the bright airy environment.  This spacious, modern Spanish colonial home is characterized by rich hardwoods, cut stone finishing's, cooling marble flooring, decorative iron works and hand crafted furniture, which is accented overall by panoramic views of the pool, gardens and golf course.

Idle time at the villa will be savoured sunning around the large fresh water pool, lounging on the expansive covered terrace, or devouring a book while resting on a chaise lounge upon your bedroom terrace.  

The central living space of the villa consists of a very large, fully equipped kitchen featuring granite top counters, a large granite work bench, hand crafted mahogany cabinets, and top quality appliances.  From the kitchen a large arch way provides a pass through to the dining room while opening up the kitchen to share in the view of the terrace and pool. 
 


The handcrafted dining room table  has seating for eight and a lovely pool view through the wooden framed patio doors that open up to the covered terrace where another dining table awaits.  
 


The living room is delightfully casual with a large wrap around couch designed to enjoy the view, each others' company, or settle into a movie on the satellite TV. 
 


Step outside from either the living or dining rooms to an expansive covered terrace that stretches the length of the home.  Off the end of the terrace is a wet bar with charcoal grill.  Next to the bar is an outdoor shower with an impressive mosaic tiled orchid for which the villa is named. 

A large pool with shallow area for the kids and jetted tub for relaxing is the focal point of the yard.

Just beyond the pool is a lovely green space with tropical plants and fruits providing a pleasant buffer between the villa and golf course.  Within the green space is an aviary with love birds and budgies adding to the tropical environment. 
 


Back inside the villa Gran Orquidea, the entrance foyer provides an access hub to a guest bedroom, a full bathroom with shower and stairs up to the second level. 

The guest bedroom has a King poster bed and small terrace overlooking the entry courtyard.  There is not an en-suite bathroom but it is only a few steps into the foyer and access to that bathroom which is has a large marble shower.
 


Heading upstairs you will find 3 spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms.  All of the rooms have rich mahogany cabinet work, marble flooring and courter tops and custom designed furniture.

At the top of the stairs on your right is the first bedroom.  It is equipped with a King bed and private terrace offering up panoramic views of the golf course.
 


To your left at the top of the stairs is another bright airy bedroom.  This too has a King bed and attached en-suite.  This bathroom has a jetted tub large enough for two.  A small terrace facing the entry courtyard provides a quiet place to sip your morning coffee as you reflect upon another day in paradise.
 


The oversize Master bedroom is fitted with a King bed, indoor sitting area, extra large en-suite bathroom with double shower and walk out to a large terrace with couch and chairs.
 


From this level the stairs continue up to the rooftop mirador.  This panoramic viewpoint has a large thatch palapa with hammocks swaying in the tropical breeze that will summon you for an afternoon nap while you enjoy the golf course and ocean views.   A small wet bar complete the amenities this rooftop mirador offers.
 


Heading back outdoors to the entrance courtyard of Gran Orquidea you will find the Garden Casita.  This cute 'little house' is available for larger groups.  The casita has 2 nearly identical self contained studio suites.   Each of the suites has a small kitchen, attached en-suite bathroom with shower, sofa bed and either a King or Queen bed.

Guests of villa Gran Orquidea are permitted access to the Omni Hotel's Beach Club.  This private club allows members to use of the hotel swimming pool, chaise lounges & umbrellas, beach towels and the services of their beach and swim-up pool bars.  Guests only need pay for food and drinks which are offered at a 20% discount to club members.

The Omni Hotel is located just a few minute stroll from the villa on beautiful Fatima Bay.  This bay has a protected outer reef making it ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

* Rates are in US dollars, include taxes and subject to change until reservation is confirmed
** Base rate is for up to 8 persons.  Add $500 per week for each extra person or $250 per child 9 years of age or under.  Children less than 12 months of age at time of arrival are NOT considered in the head count at this villa.  Maximum occupancy is 14 people
*** There is a refundable $500 Security/Damage deposit on this villa
**** Access to this property is limited to the persons indicated on your confirmation.   Exceeding this limit is a direct violation of our rental agreement and will result in a forfeit of the security deposit and could be reason to ask you to vacate.

Doug We had an absolutely fantastic time. You were right, there was plenty to do. We felt very safe, and had a blast.  We can’t wait to get back to Puerto Aventuras, or somewhere similar. Anna – the onsite property manager – said that she was overseeing construction on new homes in a community further south that would be listed on your site.  I am not currently planning a new trip, just looking for options for a work related trip in 2013 probably. Hello Doug,   We had a lovely time and really enjoyed almost everything! My husband and I really liked our hotel in Playa the first night the Mimi Del Mar.. very Mexican.  Good recommendation.... thanks. The Casa Orquidea was fabulous. Very beautiful and Augustine was very helpful in all regards, as was Anna the house manager. The house was beautiful and we really enjoyed the pool.  The house was much closer to the center of town and the beach than we thought. We also very much enjoyed using the bikes to explore.  Everyone in Puerto Aventuras was very friendly and helpful and the dolphins were a complete bonus. The cooks (Carlos and Rubin) were also fantastic, and I am not sure I can vacation again without a full staff (housekeeper/groundskeeper/cook) and am considering hiring a cook for home 2 days per week. Perhaps my husband doesn't thank you for this.  The only negatives, and these are very minor, are that the entire house was marble-floored, which is very slippery when wet.   Also the house had no telephones, which made me a bit nervous at first but as the week passed, I figured out how to use my cell phone in Mexico, and we become comfortable asking Augustine to handle all phone requests for us.  The air conditioning in the casita did not work for 1.5 days, but Augustine was very good about getting someone to fix it as soon as possible.  We biked by your house Brisa Caribe, but I know it was rented so we didn't barge in. It was beautiful! We also looked at the other house we had considered, Casa Agave, and it was also appeared very great.  We are thinking about holidays and next year and will be in touch, and I forwarded your site to some rich friends of mine who may want to rent a big house for family vacation.  All in all we loved the Mexican experience and both my sister and I have started shopping in the Latin American section of the grocery store because we are now addicted to some of your products but neither of us can find Clight Pina Colada in the US, but don't despair it is available on ebay by the Case!!!!  I didn't realize how poor my Spanish really was, but is amazing how far you can go with a few words and pleasant hand gestures.  Janet H.  August 2009.
