Casa Maravilla
Mayan Riviera - Riviera Maya
4 bedroom beachfront villa rental on Soliman Bay Mexico
for groups of up to 10 people (no more than 8 adults)

Maravilla means 'marvel' or 'wonder' in Spanish.  This is a name given to the villa by the owners with the same care and consideration that was devoted to the selection of this location, the homes' design, the materials used for its construction, the craftsman employed, the interior appointments incorporated, and the loving respect for the nature that was here long before them.  This truly is a house of Wonder in a most Marvellous place.

Soliman Bay, where the villa is located, is sheltered by an outer reef that has produced a postcard perfect bay with a white sand beach dune that separates and filters the water between the ocean and native mangrove jungle on the other side.  It is a semi=fragile eco system that supports an exotic mix of tropical flora and fauna.

It is a paradise that could be easily spoiled without the consciousness that owners such as these have shown in the way they have chose to cohabitate with this natural wonder land.  As if sprouting from the sands like the native palms that surround it, Maravilla looks and feels as if it not only belongs, but has always been here.  This 5000 square foot home, with 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths, is an oasis amidst an oasis.

Maravilla is a wonderful blend of contrasts.  Careful consideration has been given to include all of the modern amenities that a guest might want, while being totally traditional in the use of natural materials, available light, natural ventilation and earth tones drawn from the environment.

Cut stone, Talavera and Saltilo tiles mix seamlessly with the latest brushed steel appliances.  Local Mayan artefacts share the spotlight with modern Mexican art.  The home incorporates numerous furnishings from the interior of Mexico, which include oversized iron and glass chandeliers, sculptural art, handmade furniture and functional objects d'art.  Towering tree trunks wrapped in vines have been culled from the heart of the Mayan jungle to provide integral support to the building, while creating marvellous effect.  During the day the house is bathed in natural light, while at night artificial lighting is used to dramatic effect.

Pull the rental car into the driveway, approach the large hand chiselled wooden door framed in cut stone, ring the brass bell to announce your arrival, and prepare to leave your old world behind for the next week.  You have arrived at Maravilla.

As soon as you enter the property a marvellous sense of tranquility begins to displace your anxiety and stress.  Just inside the gate you will find the staff quarters where your delightful maid Elda and her very helpful handyman husband Elder live.  They are here to spoil you and they most certainly will.  In addition to keeping the villa clean, Elda is available to prepare any number of marvellous meals and do your laundry, should you request this additional service.  Elder will be sure to keep the grounds looking good and everything working properly.

Wandering up the path of hand cut stone through a tropical garden, you notice the inviting bench posed to savoir the hypnotic effect of the fountain that it faces.  You make a mental note to return, but right now you are being drawn up the steps toward the entrance to the villa.

You open the doors with anticipation and immediately are relieved and overtaken with the marvellous ambiance that this house emanates.

The impressive entrance foyer looms upward 25 feet through the second floor and forward the complete breadth of the house to the outdoors beyond.  Step inside and you will find a guest room off to your right.  This cozy room has a King bed, an attached bathroom with shower, and a lovely terrace where the occupants can sit and enjoy the garden over a morning coffee or late afternoon cocktail.

Moving further in to the villa your next option is a stairwell that heads upstairs to the other bedrooms, a study and the rooftop lounge.

The study is open, bright and highlighted by a floor to ceiling bookcase complete with books, CD's, DVD's, and objects d'art.  An antique writing desk wired with free unlimited internet access (bring your own laptop) provides an inspirational place to do some work if you must, or to simply sit and enjoy a little quiet time, as you should.

Adjacent to the study, the Master suite boasts King bed with unique headboard made from antique doors.  A sky lit bathroom with over-sized Talavera shower, twin sinks, bidet, and large picture window overlooking an upstairs garden.  French doors, leading out to a small private balcony with ocean view, complete this spacious suite.

The other two guest rooms are beachfront with panoramic views of the bay and beach.  Each offers a Queen bed, hand crafted headboards, and Talavera bathrooms with double sinks and over=size shower.  These bedrooms open up to a large ocean front terrace overlooking the pool, which runs the width of the building.  Chaise lounges provide a private place to indulge in a siesta.

All bedrooms feature safes, individually controlled A/C, ceiling fans, clock radio alarms, and hand crafted furniture from the artisan community of San Miguel de Allende, which is located in Mexico's interior.  Curtains with blackout shades provide privacy for late sleepers.

Carrying on up to the roof level via an internal stairway will take you to the owners favorite part of the house.  The open air seating area is shaded and offers a 180 degree view of Soliman Bay on one side and 180 degree view of the native mangrove jungle on the other.  Maravilla!

Relax on the couches, lie in a hammock swaying to the Caribbean breeze, or gaze at the many stars that are visible at night.  Maravilla!

Back down on the ground floor the foyer opens up to the ocean frontage.  The spacious floor plan flows between distinct, but adjoining living, dining, and kitchen areas.  All are framed in glass and bathed in filtered sunlight.  The living room arrangement comfortably seats the entire group on tastefully appointed couches and antique wooden chairs that are reminiscent of hacienda style living.  Colourful art and 12 foot ceilings throughout complete the feeling of tropical airiness and old world aesthetics.  The hand made wooden trestle dining table seats eight in style and accented with a wrought iron chandelier.  An equally stylish table with 4 chairs sits close by in the hacienda style kitchen should it be needed.

The fully equipped kitchen (no dishwasher) is a delight.  Stained concrete countertops, Talavera tile accents, niches, arches and an array of modern appliances are sure to meet any chefs requirements.  This large open kitchen enjoys full views of the pool and gardens.

Just beyond the living and dining room, through massive 16-foot sliding glass doors, is a shady covered patio which is complete with seating, coffee table and chaise lounges.  A few steps beyond the patio lies a beautiful pool surrounded by indigenous Yucatan hand cut stone. Next to the pool are two more tree trunks (one of them rising out of the pool!) which support a traditional palm stick roof and offers breezy relaxation through the filtered light.

As you make your way towards the beach, a patio area with gas bar-b-que awaits you and that fresh fish you caught earlier in the day.  Benches and chairs complete the arrangement, while a fire pit is ready to provide your evenings' entertainment.

A large grass roofed beach palapa looking down on the water has hammocks and chaise lounges calling out for you to take advantage of the view and refreshing Caribbean breeze.  The white sand beach is picture perfect.

This section of coastline is one of the calmest and most beautiful swimming and snorkel sites on the Mayan Riviera, safe enough for the kids, yet still within easy reach of a living coral reef and abundant tropical sea life. Each summer, endangered sea turtles are observed following their prehistoric ritual, crawling ashore digging huge nests in the sand and laying their eggs. This sight is only surpassed as, a few months later, scores of baby turtles emerge from the sand and hastily scuttle to the safety of the waiting waters. This experience is a once in a lifetime event!

 COMMENTS FROM OUR GUESTS

We had a very relaxing week here. The house is lovely and had many spaces to hang out. The rooftop star gazing was incredible! Marta and Louis are the real gems! They cooked wonderful meals and took very good care of us. Even the dining table was a happy sight! We really enjoyed the clean, raked beach each day. After walking the entire beach every day, ours was definitely the best cared for. Again, Marta and Louis provided a very clean house, excellent meals, and lovely smiles! It was a mom's dream to be so well taken care of! Laurie & Steve H. Jan. 2012, Minnesota

What an amazing vacation, from start to finish this is a beautiful home - with beautiful staff (Marta and Luis) constantly had us in amazement.  Thank you for an incredible getaway, we can't wait to return.  With Love.  Steve & Tracy,  July 2011

Casa Maravilla is truly PARADISE, and for 6 girlfriends it was a beautiful relaxing place to rekindle friendship and bonds. The home feeling was provided by our hosts - Marta and Luis, not just for the amazing meals but for their attention to our every desire and need.  Their friendly and open disposition along with the beauty of the house made this special vacation, the reason why we can't wait to come back.  Thank you so much for the house and hospitality.  Shania, Diana, Marta, Maiba, Atia, and Ulana,  July 2011

We had a wonderful, relaxing time... with the best part being Marta and Luis - great food and always with a smile.  Beautiful views, loved the palapa and a great pool.  Want to come back again, and again!  Sad to leave  David and Cassie Stratton,  May 2011

With happy hearts we leave Casa Maravilla full of great memories and hopes for a return.  What a wonderful, restful and fun week we had... from snorkelling to sunning, to reading good books, to watching the sunrise in the morning and the hermit crabs come out at night to listening the laughs of our kids and especially to the incredible warmth and hospitality of Marta and Luis.  We cannot say enough about these marvellous people who made us feel so special all week long.  You have and incredible home and your extra special touches showed through each and every day.  Thank you for a great week we'll never forget.  We look forward to returning and to enjoying Casa Maravilla, Soliman Bay, (And no, we are not ready to return home!) The Bradley and Huck Families,  May 2011

We have stayed at Casa Maravilla several times and it feels like our home away from home. Marta and Luis are so wonderful. Great food (the best guacamole/salsa!) and such a warm environment. It is truly a house of wonder and a very special villa. Thank you for always making our stay so special.  The Frank Family,  March 2011

This is vacation paradise.  It's our third time here and we are always taken back by how amazing it is here. The beach, the pool and the stars at night... you certainly don't get this kind of luxury in Katy Texas.  Marta and Luis were amazingly kind and made THE best food I probably will ever have!  Thank you so much for letting us vacation here.  It really is the perfect vacation! See you soon.  The Davies Family,  Jan. 2011

Our vacation at the Villa was better than I could have ever dreamed.   The Villa was very big and OPEN Very Nice and Very Clean.   The Caretakers Marta and Luis are OUTSTANDING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  A person/family/friends really could not have asked for better care and pampering from the two of them or anyone.   The Villa was great THEY made it a vacation.   Seriously,    Every morning we had a pitcher of fresh squeezed orange juice and a plate of fresh fruit,   pineapple, cantaloupe, watermelon,  papaya.     Marta would always be there to help clean up it seemed every-time we tried to cook.  (We teased her about have those crazy Americans in her kitchen).    She cooked the very best meals several times for us….  Luis made us to die for Margaritas,,,,,,,  The cooked Shrimp and Lobster,  Tamales and Chili Rellanos,,  Fajitas,,  and a Traditional Mexican dish (chicken w/ like a tamale red sauce wrapped in banana leaves and steamed.)    All were  very very good !!   We even took pictures…  I can still taste the fried plantains.   We gave them money to buy the groceries and they brought back the change and the receipt.  Charged up $8 US dollars per person to cook which we thought was very reasonable for the food on the table every night. (usually we had leftover for lunch the next day) I truly truly can not shout from the roof tops how wonderful they were..   and the dogs,,,   were perfectly well behaved.  We had massages on the beach under the Palapa,   a male and female therapist.    Both we superb.   One Hour $50 US…..   The Surprise Party went over very well  and the Flan she fixed was Very Very Good,  Tammy was pleased !!   Many of our Party of 4 couples has said they DEFINITELY  WILL  go back !!   Before I close I must tell you I gave out www.brisacaribe.com  and Doug Wasmuth’s  name yesterday to a lady yesterday and told her about Casa Maravilla and Brisa Caribe.     I told her that we used Doug as a leasing agent and that if she needed you guys would help her finding something to fit her requirements..     I do not remember her name but she is from Tulsa as well..  Thank You so much for all that you did to help me put the trip together,,   I was worth the effort.   Lisa Roberts, June 2008
