PUERTO AVENTURAS PLAY DEL CARMEN AKUMAL & AREA TULUM PUERTO MORALES CANCUN

in  Akumal and Area: Akumal is one of the older communities on this coast where nothing but the Mayan culture is really very old.  Having grown from a little known dive destination that was quite difficult to get to, into the favored vacation destination of many that it is today, Akumal is still comfortably casual and so are the restaurants and bars found here.  Let's face it, this is Mexico and the laid back easy way of life is what attracts us all here in the first place.  We have come to appreciate that we don't have to make reservations or dress for dinner even at the best restaurants in town.  You will feel welcome and comfortable whether you have just come form the beach or spent the past hour preparing yourself for a romantic evening out.

Turtle Bay Bakery:          located just inside the archway and to your left.  This is one of the most popular eateries in Akumal.  You will need to come early if you are going to beat the locals to the fresh baking.  Excellent breakfasts, wonderful deli style lunches and often in the high season they are open a couple of nights a week for dinner.  

Lol-Ha:                        located on the beach to the right of the archway.  Another favorite.  This is really three restaurants all wrapped up in one.  Breakfast and dinner is served in the main dining room.  There is a pizza restaurant attached to the side of this and out on the beach is a wonderful open air bar that offers lunch and snacks.  All are good.  The dining room offers a wide selection and is an excellent choice for a slightly more formal evening out.

Buena Vida:               located on Half Moon Bay (through the arch, turn left and about a half mile)  A popular watering hole on the ground floor and a good restaurant upstairs with a varied menu.   Swing in here for a cool drink and to find out what is going on in the area.

Que Onda:                  keep going past Buena Vida and take your second left   This one is not so easy to find but if you are wanting fresh pasta, it is your best choice in Akumal.  Open for dinners only.

La Cueva del Pescador:   located just inside the archway and to your left.  Fresh fish and cold drinks are the order of the day.  The owner Carlos Danu is a fisherman and can organize fishing charters and snorkeling trips.  You catch it, bring it to the restaurant and they will prepare it for you.

Loncheria Akumalito:     located before the arch beside Super Chomak grocery.   A simple lunch counter with decent food at a good price.  Open for breakfast and dinner.  

La Lunita:                     located past Buena Vida at the La Tortuga condos.  We have numerous friends in Akumal and nobody has ever suggested we meet at this restaurant so that probably tells you what the locals thinks.  

Imeldas Good Food:          located inside the archway to your left, next to Akumal Dive shop.  La EcoCocina although a little hard to find, is a great place to get a get a simple meal at a great price.  Open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday.

Oscar and Lalos:       located on Solimon Bay just south of Xel Ha. (see our Solimon Bay map)  Casual beach restaurant with an excellent reputation for seafood.  Open for lunch and dinner.

Blue Sky Resort:        located on Tankha Bay.  (see our Solimon Bay map)   Chef Tony from Tony e Simone in Tulum has recently taken over the kitchen.  We would follow Tony anywhere.

Casa Cenote:             located on Tankha Bay.  (see our Solimon Bay map)   Another well loved local hangout.  Owner Gary does a mean Texas bar-b-que lunch on Sundays.  Burgers are always good and beer cold.  Bring your mask and snorkel with you and spend an hour exploring Cenote Manate in Gary's back yard.

Leos Pizza:                located in the pueblo (little town) of Chumuyil 4 Kilometers south of Akumal  Fabulous pizzas, wonderful pasta dishes, local atmosphere and prices.
