Restaurants & More

in Puerto Morales:

To most people Puerto Morales is a traffic light and gas station between Cancun and Playa del Carmen.  That is too bad because if that is all you know of Puerto Morales then you are missing out on a couple of really good restaurants and a funky little fishing/artist town that is worth the short detour.  Twyla and I have found the laid back atmosphere of the town a welcome retreat after a day of shopping in Cancun and often plan our day to include dinner in Pto. Morales before heading home.  Or depending on the hour when we pass by, we might have lunch here before hitting the hustle and bustle of Cancun.  Coming from Cancun turn left at the traffic light to find all of the restaurants.

Hola Asia:                 located on the square.  Excellent mix of Asian foods at very reasonable prices.  We LOVE this place.  Chef David grew up in Hong Kong and is very versatile. Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Indian fare is offered and if it isn't on the menu, just ask, sometimes he can put it together for you.  We always order more than we need just so we have some to take home for later.  Don't miss the General's Chicken. Open Monday - Saturday (except Tues.) from 5:00 - 11:00 PM.   Sunday 3:00 - 11:00

John Grays Kitchen:   after you turn off of the highway, take your first left and go down about a block or so and watch for it on your left.  Not an obvious place for a restaurant, but with John Grays' reputation, people will find you no matter where you are located.  John was with the Ritz Carlton before becoming half of 'Johnnie Cairos'  We no longer have that great restaurant but we still have John.  Relaxed atmosphere, soft jazz, and a varied menu that is always changing.  Open evenings only

El Pirata:                  located on the square.  This casual street side restaurant and bar offers good Mexican fare at reasonable prices.  I often have the enchiladas and a Michilada with Bohemia.

Los Pelicanos:         located between the square and beach.  We haven't eaten here yet but we have been told that it is good.  The location is excellent with beautiful views of the water where you can watch the fishing boats coming and going.
