Villa Brisa Caribe
Detail Description

Most luxury villas on the Mayan Riviera that are available to the rental market serve strictly as weekly vacation villas.  While many of these villas are well equipped and appointed, they often lack the homey feeling you will find at Villa Brisa Caribe.  This is because Brisa Caribe is not just another luxury oceanfront villa used specifically for vacations.  It is the year round home of expatriated Canadians Doug Wasmuth & Shelly Korol.

Doug's profession and love of travel has allowed him the rare opportunity to visit, work and live in over 40 countries stretching around the world.  The experiences gained and many treasures gathered from this lifestyle have resulted in an eclectic taste, which is further brought out in the architectural and interior design of the villa.  Doug & Shelly consider the greatest asset from their travels to be the many and diverse friendships that they have developed along the way.  Having enough room for these friends and family to visit and the right surroundings to entertain them in, has resulted in the 6000 plus square foot, 9 bedroom, 10 bath villa with pool house, which is Brisa Caribe.  When family or friends are not visiting they are willing to make available this unique home for you and your family, friends or associates.
In order for a home to be comfortable it should not only offer all of the creature comforts that make life easy and enjoyable, there should also be a natural effortless flow to how life  functions within it.  The home should have character, a personality, which presents itself as you see the home from different perspectives and over time.  In addition there must be areas which provide privacy and intimacy, yet open spaces for the occupants to gather and celebrate.  Finding this balance when designing a large home, which normally houses only 2 people but at other times caters to as many as 20, is a challenge which has been well met at villa Brisa Caribe.
The street side of the property is walled and gated for your privacy.  Upon entering the grounds you will find a small peaceful garden with fountain and bird aviary on your right and the “casita” on your left.  The casita is a separate 3500 sq. ft. building that stretches onto the adjoining lot.  It serves as a combination of garage, staff day room, staff laundry, and dive equipment storage area on the ground floor.  The top floor is a two-bedroom apartment where Doug & Shelly reside when the villa is rented and they are in residence.  If Doug & Shelly are off on an adventure or visiting family in Canada, then they will provide an English speaking administrator to give an orientation after your arrival and available should a problem arise during your stay that the day staff of 4 cannot handle.
The area between the casita and villa is another small courtyard where you will find a wash tank and drying area for your scuba and snorkel equipment.  This is an ideal area to hang those wet towels and bathing suits too.
Upon entering villa Brisa Caribe, you likely won’t notice anything except the beautifully framed view of the ocean.  As you explore more you will see that the architectural design not only showcases the spectacular views, but also ensures that the refreshing Caribbean Breeze, that the villa was named for, passes freely through the home.  Most times you will prefer to keep cool naturally using the breeze assisted by the ceiling fans located in every room.  However, for those times when there is no breeze, you will remain comfortable because Brisa Caribe is fully air conditioned (not just the bedrooms as you may find in some other villas).  This is an important point which you can only fully appreciate once you are here and experiencing our warm tropical evenings .

The ground floor is centered around an entertainment room that flows right outside onto the terraces and pools (click for POOL photos), with beach area (click for BEACH photos) and ocean just beyond.  These outdoor areas are quite spacious and spectacular.  Two of the oceanfront lots are dedicated to our guests.  The third  has pools and lounge areas for the owners' private use.  Their separate little oasis is tastefully hidden behind a large rock waterfall and a scattering of vegetation which blends in well with the environment.  You will find that the development of the 3 lots has been thoughtfully designed to provide privacy, great views, and plenty of room for your entire group to spread out over.
A covered terrace off of the villa extends to a sunning area around the main pool with chaise lounges and umbrellas   (click for LOUNGE AREA photos).  In front of this is a grassy area before dropping down to a man made sandy area with additional chaise lounge chairs, a thatch roof palapa with hammocks and a volley ball court set up.  Just beyond this is rocky oceanfront so it is not easy to get in the water right here.  HOWEVER, if you walk along this man made sandy area 100 yards you will come to the salt water pool that is on public area.  Another 100 yards beyond this is a natural sandy beach and area for swimming.  This is right in front of the Dreams Hotel.  (click for AERIAL VIEW) and (click for ANOTHER AERIAL VIEW)

Next to the villa on the second lot is the 'Pool House' with 2 additional detached bedrooms that are opened up to groups who rent more than 7 bedrooms.

This gorgeous addition includes a large patio area ringing a shallow wading pool with waterfall that is ideal for the little ones to play or the adults to soak.  Off to the side is a covered poolside wet bar & bar-b-que area with full size refrigerator to keep your drinks cool and close at hand.  Seating for 20 is provided so you can enjoy a meal around the pool.  A large charcoal grill and a poolside half bathroom are conveniently located.
The pool house has 2 wonderful oceanfront bedrooms with spectacular views.  The second floor bedroom is the BOMBAY MASTER SUITE.   Travel back to the 16th and 17th century in this spacious and private suite that was inspired by the trade routes of the East India Trading Company.  The East India Trading Company is credited with creating Singapore and Hong Kong in addition to development of colonies in Africa and India, which include Calcutta, Bombay and Madras.  The Bombay Master Suite is complete with indoor & outdoor sitting areas, TV/DVD, stereo, security safe, individual control A/C, and large en-suite bathroom with hair dryer, twin sinks, shower and Jacuzzi tub with ocean view.  The suite and private  terrace offers plenty of privacy for the lucky couple who share this room.  The only access to the suite is through the sliding glass patio doors. (click for more BOMBAY MASTER SUITE and bathroom photos)
Located in the pool house directly below on ground level.  The colorful, whimsical, art and handicrafts collected by the owners during their many travels through Mexico is on display in the MEXICO BEDROOM.  It is slightly smaller than the master suite above, but also boasts attached en-suite bathroom with shower & hair dryer, indoor sitting areas, I-Pod/CD player, security safe, private walk out to the pool, covered terrace and.... that view.  The only access to the suite is through the sliding glass patio doors. Back inside the main villa on the ground level, the ENTERTAINMENT ROOM features a wet bar with full size refrigerator.  Pre-stocking of the bar is available so that ice cold drinks will be awaiting your arrival.  This room also has a surround sound TV system, Digital satellite receiver with Canadian and American programming, DVD player with a selection of over 200 movies, stereo system with iPod connection and CD player, PlayStation 2 video game machine, as well as a good selection of games, puzzles and books to enjoy.  Attached to the entertainment room is an office with internet connection for you to keep in touch with family, friends and heaven forbid... 'the office.'  Remember to bring your laptop, iPod, favourite XBOX video games and music. (click for more ENTERTAINMENT ROOM photos)
Off of the entertainment room you will find four bedrooms, all of which have been decorated from Doug and Shelly’s collection of art and memorabilia to create a different theme.  You may have trouble deciding which exotic destination you want to stay in.  Perhaps you will simply need to exchange mid week to experience more than one.  Each of the bedrooms have security safes, individual control A/C, i-Pod/CD players, alarm clocks, and en-suite bathrooms with hair dryers and bathrobes.

The PERSIA BEDROOM hosts many memories of the owners time spent living and working in the Middle East.  It will take you back to the days of frankincense and myrrh.  It faces the garden and is furnished with a Queen bed, en-suite bathroom, plus all of the appointments of the other bedrooms.  (click for more photos of the PERSIA BEDROOM & bathroom)

Across the hall is the BUENOS AIRES BEDROOM.  That enchanting city of Latin romance where the tango was born.  It is facing the small courtyard/casita and contains Twin beds.  The Twin beds can be put together with a special mattress pad and different linens to create a King. (click for more photos of the BUENOS AIRES BEDROOM and bathroom)

Off of the entertainment room on the ocean side, you will find 2 more bedrooms. The SOUTH AMERICA BEDROOM hold many memories of extensive travel to exotic locals such as the Amazon basin as far back as 1975.  The South America bedroom has a King bed plus a Futon couch which can be made up as a Double bed.  Individual control A/C, security safe, alarm clocks and i-Pod/CD player are standard in all of the rooms. The en-suite bathroom has shower, hair dryer and bathrobe.  Walk out patio doors head to a covered terrace with sitting area, the pool and ocean just beyond.  (click for more photos of the SOUTH AMERICA BEDROOM and bathroom)

The CARIBBEAN BEDROOM is the 4th and last bedroom on the ground floor of the main villa.  It has a King bed, walk out to pool and ocean, covered terrace, CD stereo or iPod player, alarm clock, security safe, individual control A/C and en-suite bathroom with shower, thick towels, bathrobe and hair dryer.  (click for more photos of the CARIBBEAN BEDROOM and bathroom)
Climb the stairs to the second floor where you will find three more bedrooms and the great room which is a large open area with kitchen, dining and living areas all enjoying an in your face view of the gin clear ocean.

At the top of the stairs is a niche with tribute to the Mexican Day of the Dead ceremony.

Near the top of the staircase are 2 bedrooms facing the street side of the property.  The AFRICA BEDROOM fitted with a King bed plus a Single bed, will take you on safari in the utmost of comfort.  Like all of the other bedrooms at Brisa Caribe, it has high pillow top mattress, quality linens, portable stereo, alarm clock, security safe and attached en-suite bathroom with showers, fluffy towels and hair dryer. (click here for more photos of the AFRICA BEDROOM and bathroom)
Across the hall is the ASIA BEDROOM, with it Balinese, Thai and Chinese influences, is sure to please you.  It has Twin beds, which can be made into a King.  It has en-suite bathroom with shower as well as all of the amenities in the other bedrooms.  (click here for more photos of the ASIA BEDROOM and bathroom)

The 3rd bedroom on this floor is the MEDITERRANEAN MASTER SUITE which is on the oceanfront side of the villa located just off of the great room.  This bright, and airy bedroom full of whites and blues has a King bed, amazing view, indoor and outdoor sitting areas, TV/DVD player, i-Pod docking station, alarm clocks, security safe and large en-suite bathroom with twin sinks, shower, tub and bidet.  A highlight of this room is the Jacuzzi tub.  It is situated so that you can open the bathroom shutters and enjoy the ocean view while you soak.  (click here for more photos of the MEDITERRANEAN MASTER SUITE and bathroom)

The GREAT ROOM is a large open communal area on the second floor that has lounge and dining areas as well as an impressive kitchen.  The lounge and main dining area is capped with a stunning 16 foot high red brick domed ceiling and a wall of sliding glass doors that slip into pocket walls to extend the living space onto a large covered terrace with an in your face view of the ocean.

The GREAT ROOM has two hand made dining room tables which come together to sit 14.  There is room for 6 more on stools at the adjoining dining counter.   Included in this open area is a collection of leather sofas and chairs, providing a relaxing place to sit and visit or to just enjoy the view.  With sliding glass doors that disappear into the walls, this room continues right on out to a large covered terrace.  Out here you will find sufficient tables and seating for your party to relax or dine outside should you prefer.  (click here for more photos of the GREAT ROOM)

The focal point of this large open area is the KITCHEN, where of course all good parties end up.  Here the cook or bartender is the center of attention and is rewarded for their efforts with one of the best views in the villa.  Wrapping around the kitchen is a large serving/dining counter with stools where 6 can sit comfortably.  In the kitchen and attached pantry, you will find all of the appliances, cutlery, dishes, pots, pans and tools needed to prepare anything from a simple snack for 2 to an elaborate dinner for 20.

If you like cooking, you will love this kitchen.  If however you want a break, then you really should spoil yourself with our in house traditional MEXICAN COOK or our INTERNATIONAL CHEF. OR... if you can tear yourself away from the villa, there are numerous RESTAURANTS in Puerto Aventuras that are just a short stroll away.

It doesn't end here..  Our favourite part of the house to start and end the day, is the ROOFTOP bar & dining terrace, where you will find an additional 1400 sq. ft. of living space.  The views and layout make this the place to be for al fresco dining, to share a refreshing drink, bar-b-que up the day's catch, for the early riser to catch an amazing sunrise, a couple to share a sunset and for romantic star gazing.

This large area has built in benches arranged to take full advantage of the sunrise and sunset, a covered wet bar with wrap around counter, stools and a gas bar-b-que waiting to grill up a steak or the catch of the day.  Tables and chairs are provided to give you yet another area for dining.  The usefulness of this area means that there are 6400 square feet, plus garden, pool and the beach for you and your group to spread out over.  We often receive comments from our guests about how many nice places there are in the villa and on the property for them to entertain in, or escape to. (click here for more photos of the ROOFTOP BAR & DINING terrace)

Villa Brisa Caribe is an ideal location for a family reunion, to celebrate a monumental birthday, commemorate a special  anniversary or to exchange vows surrounded by your closest family and friends.  While we welcome these events we do restrict the guest list to those staying at the villa.  (click here for more photos of WEDDINGS & SPECIAL EVENTS)
Brisa Caribe is situated within Puerto Aventuras on an exclusive piece of coastline referred to as 'Las Rocas' or 'the rocks.'  This short, flat, strip of rocky coast separates a white sand beach on one end and the entrance to the marina on the other.  Brisa Caribe is located at the end nearest the beach.  Here the sand spills out over the rocks and in front of the villa.  A palapa umbrella with hammocks and lounge chairs in the sand, make this a tranquil place to relax and watch the boats passing, as they head to the pristine reef located just off shore to dive, or out a little further to fish for Marlin, Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, and Wahoo.  Here you will also be able to watch the para-sailers drift by.  Or if your group has energy to burn, there is a volleyball court set up in the sand right in front of the villa.  If you still are not tired, how about a game of soccer?
Nearly in front of the villa you will find a saltwater pool carved into the limestone rock. This is a lovely, protected place to swim.  Two channels flush the pool with the passing  waves to keep it clean and allowing small fish to pass through.  I have even spotted a baby turtle swimming here once.  100 yards from the saltwater pool, you will find the white sand beach, which continues down past 3 hotels.  This beach is situated in a cove that offers protection for swimmers and like all of the coastline in Mexico, open to the public.  If you get tired of lying in the sun or swimming, you may want to wander the beach or rocky shore combing for shells and other treasures.   During your stay you will likely meet 'Pepe', 'Chico' and 'Gordo' the 3 iguanas living in the waterfall rocks.  Gordo is the big one missing part of his tail, Chico is the little green iguana, and Pepe is the medium size one.  They like to sun themselves on the rocks while they wait for you to bring them a little snack.  They are vegetarian and especially fond of Hibiscus flowers and the tops of celery.
